Nightguards

Often people come to Tandestetik Stockholm because they grind or clench their teeth and are most often unaware, they are doing so. In most cases, the treatment we prescribe comprises the use of occlusal splints or guards that are worn primarily at night to protect the teeth when the grinding or clenching occurs.

In some extreme cases, tooth wear can be so severe that the restoration of both arches is required to prevent tooth loss.

If you often wake up with a headache or sore jaws, it may be because you are squeaking, squeezing or biting your teeth. A night guard has proven to be an effective solution for such occurrences.

Squeaking, squeezing or clenching your teeth is very common and is often due to excess stress in your life, personal or professional. A night guard has proven to be effective at relieving or removing this discomfort. It is a molded plastic rail in soft or hard plastic that you use during the night to protect your teeth from wear and tear.

People who grind their teeth, also known as bruxism, or people with sleep apnea most often enjoy a relief from their symptoms by wearing a specially designed and tailored mouth guard at night.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is a very common condition, especially during the night when sleeping, and often leads to severe damage to your teeth, causing headaches, jaw aches, TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) issues and more. It is unpleasant and a common problem we have witnessed in many of our patients is that most bruxism sufferers don’t know they are clenching and grinding their teeth at night.

Our recommended treatment for bruxism is to wear a nightguard to protect your teeth from harmful grinding and clenching. The guards are custom fitted to your mouth and have proven to be extremely effective at protecting your teeth from damage and eliminating bruxism symptoms.

Signs of Bruxism

There are several signs you should keep a lookout for in between visits to your dentist that include:

  • Flat or chipped teeth
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Waking up with sore jaw muscles
  • Neck or facial pain

If you happen to notice any of these signs and suspect you may be grinding your teeth at night, you should schedule an appointment with Tandestetik Stockholm to evaluate and determine if bruxism is causing the discomfort you are experiencing.

What types of night guards are available?

There are two types of night guards: professional, custom-made or over the counter (OTC), boil and bite. While the night guards commonly found in pharmacies can relieve tooth grinding, there are definite benefits to choosing a more adapted, custom night guard made Tandestetik Stockholm.

Custom-made night guards use detailed molds of your teeth, ultimately making them far more comfortable to wear. We will also go further in the diagnosis by considering the alignment of your jaw ensuring your night guard won’t place unnecessary stress on the joint. While a store-bought night guard may seem attractive due to its lower cost, custom-made night guards can last up to ten years, making them a more cost-efficient option over the long-term.
