Dentures
Dentures or partial dentures are commonly associated with people that have passed a certain age, but many young people are also faced with the need to also wear them. Therefore, Tandestetik Stockholm addresses this challenge with expert dental services in order to improve smiles, speech abilities and the capacity to chew food comfortably. Dentures and/or partial dentures fill any gaps resulting from tooth loss with false teeth. There are commonly two types of removable prostheses in use:
- Partial prosthesis most commonly used and attached to remaining teeth with mechanical brackets.
- Full denture in the event the patient has lost all the teeth in a jaw or if the remaining teeth are too weak or damaged to be used to attach a partial denture.
When should you consider dentures?
Whatever the cause might be, dentures present several advantages as a tooth replacement option:
- To regain confidence in your appearance and by extension your self-confidence.
- The ability to speak clearly and be understood by others.
- Immediate replacement of a lost teeth
Dentures and partial dentures often provide an effective solution for missing teeth. Leaving gaps in your natural denture can create the conditions necessary for bacterial growth, which can lead to cavities in the other remaining teeth, gum disease, and infections. Neighboring teeth can also lose their strength due to the lack of structural support on either side of the gap.
The missing teeth can affect facial muscle tone over time and therefore their appearance.
The importance of replacing teeth
Teeth play a crucial role in so many aspects of our daily lives. To begin with, this means that it is essential to keep up a good and regular oral health routine. If you fail to do, this will most likely result in plaque remaining on your teeth, eventually causing decay and leading to tooth loss.
Dentures intend to replace an entire row of teeth along the upper or lower jaw, while partial dentures are used to replace several teeth or half of a row of teeth.
Full dentures are a good option in the event you have no remaining teeth, or your bone condition doesn’t allow you to do implants.
Meanwhile, a partial appliance makes sense if you still have some natural teeth remaining.
There are also forms of permanent dentures, which can be safer and more durable. These dentures are anchored to the jaw with implants.
How dentures work
Unlike implants or bridges, dentures are removable. This apparatus consists of a gum-colored acrylic base and artificial teeth. The patient fits the dentures over his or her gums. Denture adhesive products are widely available to help keep the appliance firmly in place in the mouth. After a few days of adjustment, the patient should not experience any discomfort or irritation when wearing his or her dentures.
We make impressions of the patient’s mouth. These go to a lab technician who can customize the appliance for the patient. Once the dentures are ready, the patient returns to Tandestetik Stockholm for the fitting process.
Follow-Up Care
It can take time for the wearer to adjust to having dentures in his or her mouth. After several days, the wearer should not suffer from any discomfort. Patients may also experience some minor pain, soreness, and irritation to the gums.
